Help for Heroes / Heroes Welcome UK / St Georges Day Lunch 2012 at the Dorchester Hotel

I just wanted to share with you my experience of last Friday afternoon, one which was really not expected.

I was recently invited to join WO1 W..D.G Mott OBE (GSM London) as one of the two "Guests of Honour" attending this rather special St George's Day Lunch held annually at the Dorchester. This year's chosen charities were Help For Heroes and Clic Sargent

The warm reception given to both the GSM and myself was generous and moving and I think we both might have suffered a little dust in our eyes! I am not sure of the exact figure raised on the day but I am sure that the final total will be as impressive.

It was quite simply a memorable day and brought some welcome attention to the cause along the way.

The heartbreaking news of six deaths in Afghansitan has just been recieved, the Heroes Welcome team would ask you to share a moment of quiet refection to remember the six brave young men who were tragically killed yesterday in Helmand Province. one was from the Duke of Lancaster Regiment and five from my own Regiment, the 3rd Bn The Yorkshire Regiment, Duke Of Wellingtons. our thoughts and prayers go to our fallen comrades and their families.

We are delighted to Welcome the County of North Yorkshire to the Heroes Welcome partnership. The UKs largest County and home to the garrison town of Catterick joined us at a simple ceremony held at County Hall on the 5th March 2012, thank you for your support.
